How much will a steroid injection for my arthritic hip affect my immune system ? I’m on watch and wait but have lots of long lasting chest infections

Joint steroid injection
I had cortisone shots in my shoulder before chemo and after. No issues. I eventually needed rotator cuff surgery in Jan. All was fine. Good luck! 💕
If you are in pain it won’t be having a beneficial effect on your immune system anyway so it’s got to be worth it. My husband’s orthopaedic surgeon told him not to have one if he intended to have his hip replaced anytime soon because it would prevent the surgery for a few months. This is worth bearing in mind.
Yes steroids are an immunosuppressant because Corticosteroids cause immunosuppression mainly by sequestration of CD4+ T-lymphocytes in the reticuloendothelial system and by inhibiting the transcription of cytokines.
However, I understand the effects are out of our system within 22 hrs. The relief can be immense however for a while.
I certainly had them into my torn rotator cuff without any discernible impact on my CLL levels.
The main issue seems to be from long term and consistent use of steroids but that won’t be the case. Pain is miserable so hope it helps you. No chance of a hip replacement?

I’m on W&W and have had many steroid injections over the last few years. I think it will affect your blood count if near to your blood draw just to be aware. As said by Newdawn , not allowed 3 months prior to surgery.
