Ibrutinib for chronic lymphocytic leukemia in the setting of respiratory failure from severe COVID‐19 infection: Case report and literature review . I have seen parallels with other studies related to supplementation (NAC, EGCG, Quercetin, Vitamin D) for COVID19 and CLL. Maybe someone with the background may explain this. Posted because I find it interesting.

Hi velderve,

-

This report is a narrative for one patient and is similar to several others that are much like testimonials. This event appears to be successful, but there is no way to know if the patient would have had the same experience without Ibrutinib involvement. At the end of the summary the author suggests that controlled trials will be needed The only way to rationally inform these decisions and explore similar potentially promising leads in this pandemic is to conduct carefully done clinical trials

There has been significant interest in proving this concept, including my CLL expert doctor- Dr. Richard Furman but I have not heard of a rigorous trial. However I do believe that most of the CLL experts now believe that continuing existing CLL treatments like Ibrutinib when a patient contracts COVID-19 is best. But new treatments for CLL should not be started if a patient has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

My CLL specialist told me and my husband that if I was ever diagnosed with COVID to take my Ibrutinib with me if hospitalized. He said it might help and it couldn’t hurt!

My doctor has withdrawn ibrutinib for 3 weeks since I started with covid19. He said it could be dangerous because of possible bleeding. I am hospitalized.

Thx....But with ibrutinib or not?

There was some thought initially that BTK inhibitors would help suppress the cytokine storm which can dangerously occur with a COVID-19 infection. Clinical trials with ibrutinib and acalabrutinib unfortunately didn't show any marked difference.

Between ibru and akala? or all BTK?

Separate trials for those two BTKi drugs. Others aren't yet approved for CLL.

We are talking about a covid active and to treat or no to treat CLL in that moment..

That is the question...To treat or not to treat with ibrutinib in the meantime you have an activ covid.
