Welcome India!

Treatment is started for many different reasons - there is no one fixed reason.

If you look to the the RIGHT of this post you will see "related posts". There is much written and discussed on the Forum about this very important point in our journeys.

Of course not everyone needs treatment.

At stage 0 - you could be many years away from treatment and indeed by then the treatment options will have changed - hopefully more certainty about the best options for us will exist.

CLL is a complex disease and we are all different. That does make treatment decisions much harder. For that reason many of us will get a 2nd opinion.

If your specialist recommends treatment at a particular absolute White Blood Cell or Lymphocyte cell count, (WBC or #Lym), then they are most probably not keeping informed of the differences in treating CLL compared to other Non Hodgkin's Lymphomas. Seek a second opinion. One of the triggers for starting CLL treatment is the lymphocyte count doubling time being more rapid, i.e. shorter than, 6 months.

I noticed in your profile that you are on Prednisone for a different disorder. There is a relationship between this drug and increases in lymphocytes. Especially in females and especially in people over 60 years of age. I don't know whether you fit into either category.

I think there may need to be some co-ordination between your Rheumatologist and your Haematologist on this question.

Thanks Seelel, exactly, I was on Prednisone for 20 days. My WBC and Lymphocytes when up. I am 69 years old female. I see both Rheumatologist and Hematologist. I was very upset with my Rheumatologist who put me on steroids. Too late now I have to wait for the WBC to go down.

I think that the effect on the lymphocyte count by the 20 days of Prednisone will not last once the Prednisone is stopped. It will probably only reflect the state of your CLL at your next blood test. Check with your haematologist when you next see him/her.
