Mosquito bites

Hi there, I was diagnosed in 2018 at age 46. I’m on WW as the disease is progressing slowly. However, I do have a problem recovering from mosquito bites. I still itch from bites I got a few months ago. Does anyone know how to deal with over-reactions to mosquito bites?

I have the similar overreaction with big blisters, especially at my feet and from Moskitos in Greece. Knowing that I do Overprevention when in Greece. A heat stick seems to help if I find the bite right away, which I usually don’t.

Don’t know where you are located geographically, but have you tried “Afterbite”? It is a small pen like tube with a roller ball that you roll over the bite. It has worked better for me than anything else. Also “Cortizone 10” works well too, also a roll on.

That’s helpful. My kids use Afterbite, so I’ll try it myself. Did you consult a dermatologist on solutions for this?

No, because once I started treatment on Ibrutinib and Venetoclax, mosquitoes do not like my blood anymore!

Oh that’s a positive side effect of treatment! I’m like a dessert table for bugs. I’m fearful of next spring when the bugs are back.

In the interim, I’ll see if my dermatologist has any ideas.

Yeah, a very expensive mosquito repellent!

I have the same problem and I scratch them in my sleep so the bed sheets get covered in blood.

I now take a proactive defensive approach of trying not to be bitten in the first place so I always have an insect repellent with me and I use a strong one with 50% DDT!

Sadly they still bite me through my clothes and I end up spraying everywhere to be sure. People have commented on my 'perfume'! Not great but it saves months of misery.

Jackie, do you mean DDT or DEET? DDT is banned in US, but maybe not elsewhere.

I'm in the same position. Just scratching bites from August last night. I haven't found any perfect solutions, but I do use bug spray almost all the time. Unfortunately, most of them got me in my apartment some how. I don't even open my windows, but they found their way to the third floor anyway.

I get a horrible reaction around my feet and ankles from bugs. The only thing that helps me is a prescription ointment I got from the dermatologist. I believe it is a cortisone. I use it at the first sign of a reaction. None of the over the counter after bite products or any-itch creams ever worked for me.

There have been lots of threads on this forum about bug bites, so you may want to do a search to see other suggestions. Apparently people with CLL are more susceptible to extreme reactions to bites. (Lucky us!)
