Because of a mild winter, the ticks and mosquitoes have been really bad where I live. I have gotten numerous bites, and the itching, redness, and irritation lasts for months! I feel like I'm going crazy! I did not run a fever or have a rash with the tick bites, bug I have been miserable!

Mosquito and tick bites.
My sympathy. I have also been plagued with mosquito bites all summer. The best product I have found to ease the eternal itching is Apaisyl, a roll-on. The effect is immediate. It comes in a small bottle which is easy to carry around. This is a French product but I'm sure you must have something similar in the States.
I hope this helps a bit.

After bathing, don't towel dry those parts of you that the critters can get to; rather, while the parts they CAN get to are still wet, put a few drops of rose geranium oil (the a capita NOT graveolens) on your wet hands and "dry off" the rest of the way applying an oil & water skim where you would be exposed to the blood-suckers...you'll be unappetizing to them.
A dot of oregano oil on an existing bite may quell the itch...at least it won't get infected.
Ice those reactionary fiery spots.
Jewelweed salve...
One bite does it for me. Numerous bites and I might as well check in at the nearest hospital. I've tried all sorts of potions without success.
I simply take an antihystemine pill (spelling, I suspect) when it gets too bad. I suffer from midge bites here in Scotland, sometimes experiencing 1/2 ping pong ball itchy lumps and one of the allergy pills stops things in their track.
For me, these pills do cause a bit of a "downer" in mood for a day but it's better than wanting to cut a leg off!
I will try that!
In the US, I have found that a product called "Afterbite" does the trick for me. Comes in a cylinder with a spongy thing on the end that you dap and press on the bite. Works well for me when I get a bite.
Tic bites can cause lyme disease so might consider mentioning to dr. It's been a horific bug season here in vermont, us. After trying all kinds of remedies I now know to take an antihistimine asap right after a bite then I wash throughly and add an over the counter oitment called silver solution and cover with a band aid. This heals the bite in a couple of days. Bug repellants kinda work if I spray all exposed skin and then spray my hands and apply to to face ears etc. It's a jungle out there. Good Luck!
We checked about tick fevers, we usually have RMSF in our area. My husband is a doctor and he has not seen anything that lasts this long. I have itching and irritation up to 6 months after the bites. Driving me crazy! I will check on the silver solution. Thanks!
Great to have a doctor in the house. I've had very slow healing as well but this silver solution, brand name, has done what triple antibiotics couldn't. We're all different But the common denominator is cll.
Some say, due to age, it could be a new allergy. Some say it's the cll presenting through the skin. Nevertheless fall will be a blessing. be well-
This is the first year I have ever reacted to bites. First the became welts, then like hives that spread. Dr. Has perscribed a cortozide steroid cream, helps some but still breaking out and itching 3months after the bites.
Not at all, I've read others who are having the same experience. Between this and the fatigue it's been an interesting summer.
I also have experienced several symptoms from the bites. I live in TN in US. I'm not promoting this product but I use Skin So Soft product from Avon during shower it has been a God sent. Those little critters don't like the taste or smell? Who knows? It works! I hope this helps as much as it worked for me. Also if you get the bites Bendril spray for bites really helps. Good luck.
I know people who use Skin So Soft on their horses and dogs. It doesn't seem to work for me (we all have different body chemistry that affects how anything scented smells on us) but it does work for many friends. If you use the oil be very careful about slipping in the tub or shower!
With ticks, if you remove one put it in alcohol and take it in to your doctor, especially if you live in an area where one of the tick borne diseases is going around, so the doctor (or someone who knows ticks) can type it.
