I recently had a lab test that i am concerned about. I have not seen the doctor yet appt. in two weeks.I believe it was a CBC. The following showed low or high. Monocytes High, Lymphocytes Low, Neu High. Mono is also high but not concerned about since I am 78.

I also have RA that may be a contributing factor. I know this is likely serious. Can you tell me anything with this information.

I’m sorry but you Need to see a doctor to get a medical diagnosis. Nobody in the forum here can tell you what may or may not be wrong. If you are concerned you should contact the doctor and bring the appt forward to discuss it with them. This is a forum for people with a confirmed diagnosis of CLL and it doesn’t sound like you have that.

We do wish you well. And hope that these test results are not the sign of anything seriously wrong. Sometimes a hugh neutrophil count can be a sign of fighting an infection. So it’s even more worth talking to your doctor more urgently about that. And as always if you have any really worrying symptoms there’s always the ER.

All the best.

I expect that you appreciate that you have posted to a community supporting those with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), an incurable blood cancer, hence our community interest in blood test results? Our expertise through self education is specific to just this one blood cancer, which doesn't result in blood test results like yours, so we are most unlikely to be able to help. Even if we could, what you have disclosed is not sufficient for anyone to really help you - anywhere! If you look at your blood test results, you should hopefully be able to find just the absolute counts (not percentages) for the respective blood counts along with a reference range. How high and how low, whether these results are your normal, to what degree they have changed over time and what prescriptions you are taking are far more informative than just high or low results. It is quite possible that your out of normal results are totally explainable by an infection and your RA and the best person to help you with their interpretation is your doctor.

For your information, members in this community tend to have low platelet and haemoglobin counts, and of the white blood cell counts you have mentioned, the following: Monocytes normal to low (they jump around considerably anyway), Lymphocytes very to extremely high, Neutrophils normal to low. So as you can see, it's the total opposite of what you have reported. You've mention mono twice, not mentioning eosinophils or basophils. High eosinophils can be due to an allergy.

Because infections can push our different white blood cell counts above and below the normal upper and lower reference limits, it is usual to have a repeat blood test when concerning blood test results are observed. Generally they are found to return into healthy range, but for some people their healthy level can be outside of the reference ranges. I hope your next blood test relieves your concerns or your doctor can explain what's happening and why. As you can see, you don't match the pattern of having CLL, which is the most common blood cancer in older people, with a median age of diagnosis of around 70.
