65 year old male, diagnosed 3/12. Watch and wait, monocytes never an issue until last test, jumped from 0.8 to 6.1 in 3 months. WBC 71 and creeping up. Any thoughts? Thanks

monocyte jump
Hi fishnman and welcome as I see this is your first post.
Obviously you’ll need to discuss this with your specialist but sometimes a hike in the monocyte level can be due to an infection. Mine certainly took a spike when I had an infection. The trend is important so be sure to check it out next blood draw and consult.
It looks as if you were diagnosed only 4 months ago. If your WBC has risen it could be the combination of the monocyte and lymphocyte level which can be indicative of an infection. Sometimes we are just not aware of them but of course this is just a possibility I’m suggesting. Again, it’s the trend observed through the Watch & Wait period that’s telling. Your GP will be watching for doubling trends in your ALC once the levels over 30.
Hope you’re keeping well generally and coping with the diagnosis.
Best wishes,

Thank you very much for your reply, Newdawn. I was diagnosed in March of 2012 and have been on W&W since. I'm with you, I think we need to suspect infection. My PCP took the last bloodwork at 3 months because my WBC had jumped during my regular 6 mos workup. I should hear back from the Duke hematologist tomorrow. Hope you are well!
7100 or 71000? Another importance is , what are your platelets and hemoglobin counts
Those are on the normal of lowside , you may need to get a Fish test soon and consider some treatments. Have you tried cutting refined sugars, glucose , fruitcose and processed foods from your diet and limiting red meat.
More veggies , fruits and fish
