My WBC is 20.1 and Platelets is 437, is it normal ?

Did my blood count 10 days ago and the result for my WBC is 20.1 and Platelets is 437. Is my result normal ? My GP diagnosed that I had chest bacteria infection and was given Cefuroxime 500mg for 10 days. Does it really helps ? Please advice, thanks !

Hi Cecilia, that looks like a ‘normal’ white blood count for someone fighting off a bacterial infection which would raise the WBC beyond the maximum range of 11.5. A normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter of blood so your platelet count is excellent.

The course of antibiotics for the diagnosed bacterial infection is standard good practice and hopefully it will resolve your issues.

Something tells me you don’t have CLL. Is this just a general blood test enquiry or have you been diagnosed with CLL?

Thanks for the reply. What’s CLL ? Sorry I’m a layman for all these medical terms but so far I was only told that I had chest infection.

I’m done with my antibiotic and I was told to go for another blood count today. Hopefully everything will be fine then. Good day !

Cecilia, CLL is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia which is a blood cancer. I think you’ve probably joined this site in error looking for an explanation of blood test results.

Hoping all will be fine with your follow up blood tests and that your chest infection clears up soon.
