Aciclovir

Hi all

During my FCR treatment I've had itching in my scalp, neck, back and chest. It did subside a lot over the last few weeks but now this week it's come back with a vengeance! I had a new prescription last Tuesday for Aciclovir and it wasn't until today I noticed I had 200mgs instead of the usual 400mgs. Could this of caused itching having lower dose?

Septrin did this to me after 2 cycles. It was noticeable that the rash and itching was worse in the hours immediately after dose. GP remedied this with antihistamines and then at next appointment the consultant switched me to Pentamidine via nebuliser once a month. So either ring the Haematology clinic or see the GP tomorrow. Not pleasant to live with and something can be done.

Thanks devonrr, when I first told oncologist and nurse about itching they told me to take an antihistamine which I did and it relieved it.

Acyclovir can give a rash or itching and you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Contact your oncology clinic today, most clinics have 24hr call in service, or your doctor. This need to be addressed ASAP.

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

hives

rash or blisters

itching

Thanks Chris

I'm going to ring now. I'm not sure if they have reduced dosage because of itching or in error so will check.

Thanks Jack I've got a call out to them. Here's hoping your post treatment improves, I left work while on W&W because I was having grief about all my time off. I wish I had stuck with it and taken advice.

Hi, I met with my consultant today and advise him about the difficulties I have been having with what sounds like a similar rash to yourself. He was of the opinion that it was not caused by the Acyclovir as this is prescribed to protect against things like shingles.

I've tried several over the counter creams which seemed to make the rash more inflamed and even more itchy. Recently started using Bio oil and it's really calmed down, almost gone completely.

Hope you get some relief soon
