Two months after FCR. Dr. said my numbers should grow as the weeks progress. Started therapy due to low platelets, not high WBC. My whites are .09 and platlets 47. The lowest ever. There was a mention of left shift. Don't know what's going.

Did they explain to you what a 'left shift' refered to?

A "left shift" is a phrase used to note that there are a high number of young, immature white blood cells present.

Most commonly, this means that there is an infection or inflammation present and the bone marrow is producing more WBCs and releasing them into the blood before they are fully mature.

This is a natural immune response to infection and inflammation.

Obviously after FCR, the causes might lie somewhere else...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my nurse did mention it is usually an infection for someone without CLL, but said it is often something else with someome without. I get my bone marrow results Thursday so will know then.
