mmrv vaccination

My granddaughter (Eden) is due to have her mmrv vaccination soon, and my daughter was told to keep Eden away from people whose immune systems are weakened. I've been on W&W for 5 years and not really ill during that period. Would you advise keeping my distance... and it's holiday season very soon?

I have just been watching Dr. Claire Dearden and she said you will know when your immune system is compromised because you will start to catch things...or something like that. youtube.com/watch?v=wIaX_VB... I think it was this or the next one. You can have your immune levels tested in yoru FBC (they probably were).

You are in the position of having to weigh up risks against benefits. We do not want to bring about our own premature demise but then we do also want to live our life to the full and grandchildren at Christmas must be quite special.

I think that is the best answer. We actually celebrate Chanuka but the idea is the same:- family, connecting, joy.

The alternative, not being together in the holiday season, is too miserable to be considered and honestly, makes life not worth living.

Thank you for responding and wishing you season's greetings.

Hi Safta,

When I read your post and your granddaughter's doctor's warning, I wanted to be absolutely sure that any advice would be right because this is a very important issue to you and your family.

This link contains some excellent advice from authoritative sources and says that the MMR vaccine is NOT a significant risk to the immunocompromised. The exception could be someone undergoing a stem cell transplant.

Have a read through and if you have any concerns, consult your own physician for advice.

Hope you enjoy a wonderful Chanuka with your family!

Regards,

Thank you, that was SO helpful. My daughter is a school nurse so extra-sensitive to all matters concerning vaccines. But now I feel relaxed about the holidays, and the family gatherings.

Season greetings to you too!
