What can I do for a wart that catches on everything?

I have a wart and my dr refuses to remove it and it's catching on everything! It's very painful what can I do for it?

Try another Doctor. I had a lump which one doctor told me was a cycst. I tried another doctor 2 weeks later and ended up with two operations for cancer. Really don't want to frighten anyone but it can happen.

Sassy_mommy, does your doctor give a medical reason why he won't surgically remove it or is it a time/financial refusal?

I'm sure you've read most of the suggested methods for removing warts and probably tried some of them. Because of our CLL, infection must be a paramount consideration so many of the old fashioned methods are risky. Sounds like it needs professionally surgically removing and I'd be tempted to pay privately to have it done if that's at all possible. Presumably your doctor is assured it's definitely a wart which are distinctive?

Sounds like your doctor thinks it's no big deal which is a shame. Has he not prescribed any alternative therapies to help?

Sorry I don't know which country you're in so hard to know which health system you're in.

Hi Newdawn - the Garlic remedy (below) was told to my dad by a Doctor in St George's hospital, not long after WW2 finished.

put some garlic granules into a egg cup, add a little olive or sunflower oil, sufficient to make into a small amount of thick paste. Cover the wart with it and then apply a plaster large enough to cover the area. Press well on and leave for approx 3 days. Repeat again if necessary - it really depends on size and thickness of mole as to how long to effect its disappearance! I joke not, my dad did that to a mole on the side of his forehead.

I in later years told 2 others about this remedy, one had a mole on top of her hand and other had similiar to my Dad, thick black/purplish area of hard dried mole like skin. Garlic is renowned for curative properties! Wear rubber gloves if you have to ge the area wet if its your hand.

Another good tip - as spring and summer gardening looms - if you get a thorn stuck in your skin, take a little piece of soap, soften press flattish, make a dent in middle put a little sugar (not sweetener) in the indent, turn over to place on top of thorn, cover with plaster and in less than 24 hrs thorn should have come out on its own, there will be no inflammation on the skin. Dad's tip again and I did it to my son, who rolled down a grass bank and got a thorn in his back. Next morning when I took plater off, there was thorn sitting in the middle of the soap!

Those old fashioned remedies for warts certainly can work Sambs and the garlic treatment could be worth a try for Sassy.

Can I just advise caution however in trying to self treat mole removal because they are different to warts (which are contagious and more of a concern in CLL being due to the HPV virus). Moles with any size, thickness and colour change need the attention of a doctor/dermatologist because we are regrettably highly susceptible to developing skin cancer with our compromised immune systems. I certainly wouldn't be trying to deal with moles myself since receiving this dx. The hazards from infections entering even the simplest wound have such greater significance now. I wonder if the thorn remedy could be dangerous if the thorn had introduced bacteria into the system and in the case of blackthorn, very serious indeed because of the risk of cellulitis and septicaemia.

Sorry Sambs, I'm not trying to discredit these old remedies but I'm not sure they are particularly advisable for us.

Seek the advice of a dermatologist... warts can be a painful problem after CLL treatment... a dermatologist would be able to assess your risk... HPV can be nasty in the immunocompromised CLL patient.

I had a wart on my finger this was 30 years ago . I took a pair of pliers and pulled it out . It had white roots where it was in grown. I don't mean for you to do this but it was only slightly painfull for me.
