I have CLL and am travelling to Kenya in Oct t... - CLL Support
I have CLL and am travelling to Kenya in Oct to work in a school. What precautions/immunisations should I take?
It depends on the immunization requirements of the country. You want to have catastrophic accident travel insurance, in place and other required medical and dental insurance.
The CDC in the U.S. published a list of vaccines. Generally no live vaccines for CLL patients...we are immunocompromised by diagnosis... perhaps consult an immunologist well in advance, because some vaccines require lead time for effective protection... Yellow fever can be difficult because it is a live vaccine and there may be waivers required to enter the country...
Might consult your heme/onc as well as your GP... if you stay is extensive they may want you to return to your country for CLL checkups or perhaps get blood results sent to them from a local doctor...
If you have been treated for CLL use the column of this table for HIV severely immunocompromised, and if you have had fludarabine, carry a card that states you are to receive only 'irradiated' blood and blood products...
Hi Has your Dr/Consultant approved of this visit? Good luck and best wishes
Hi There,
Good luck on your trip to Kenya. How do you feel health wise about travelling with CLL, I ask because I also have CLL and want to travel but do not feel strong enough to do so, and how do you get on with travel insurance with CLL.
Sorry but I cannot advise on immunisations etc.
