Recently we've had discussions on site privacy as well as a poll on how some of us consider ourselves to have been unfairly treated due to our CLL diagnosis. Our lack of individual privacy has been much in the news lately and Mikko Hyppönen*, in a TED talk given in Brussels last month, gives an excellent 20 minute presentation on this very topical and relevant subject. Particularly relevant to us is the section from 12 minutes on where Mikko covers how important maintaining privacy is to both individuals and democracy.
* Mikko Hyppönen is the Chief Research Officer for the Finnish computer security company F-Secure. In 2011, he was ranked 61st in Foreign Policy's Top 100 Global Thinkers report.

From the TED presentation:
"The two greatest tools of our time have been turned into government surveillance tools. I'm talking about the mobile phone and the internet. George Orwell was an optimist."
