Hi everyone, we're in the ICU after my son's Kasai this morning. He seems to be very gassy and crampy. He hasn't opened his bowels yet either. The nursing team have been fantastic in trying to make him more comfortable but no luck so far. Has anyone come across any good tricks to help babies pass gas while in recovery?
First 24 hours after Kasai: Hi everyone... - Children's Liver ...
First 24 hours after Kasai
Don't worry, they give suppositories...my son passed motion after 3days with the help of suppositories...
Dear CLATHI1
You will be under the care of a specialised liver team who will know what can be tried to support your child during this time and will know the kinds of interventions to try to relieve your son's situation. It is very soon after his operation so it may take a bit longer for this situation to be resolved but the team will fully understand what can be done and when.
If you want to read more about Biliary Atresia we have a leaflet at childliverdisease.org/liver... and if you need any further information go to our website or you can register with our organisation if you live within the UK. Details are on our website or you can e-mail us at families@childliverdisease.org
Many thanks.
Warmest Regards,
Michelle, Head of Support, CLDF
It takes time my son finally did it after 3 day’s I believe and when we saw the color we was jumping but everything takes time especially to know if the Kasai worked or not is all a waiting game 1 day at a time. My son has 2 months he had his Kasai done and we still praying something changes but his levels and stool say otherwise.. Hope your baby makes a good recover fast.
Hi I hope your son is doing well and recovering well. BA babies can be extremely gassy. He will pass stool eventually and if not the nurses will use suppository. Also for gas, the nurses always wrapped my son in warm blankets especially around the tummy. Keeping it warm helps with gas. It’s a tricked that worked for us. Good luck much love
