Is this a clay coloured poo?

Hello everyone, my 16 month old daughter has been diagnosed with Hand Foot and Mouth disease. She has terrible mouth ulcers but she is doing better in terms of hydration. She hasnt pooped today as she has not eaten anything but had one stool yesterday which looked like this. Please could you advise if it is indeed clay coloured or would you think its a normal poo colour?

She has a history of high fevers (just like this time) needing hospital admission 5 months ago for 4 nights for IV antibiotics. Her liver function was massively off that time but it came down to normal within 10 weeks. She never had a liver ultrasound as the bloods showed decreasing trend. They did not isolate any virus. EBV and hepatitis was negative. She had a episode of pale stool 6 weeks after the hospital admission but her liver function were markedly improved by that time, almost near normal.

I am now wondering if I her liver might be affected this time too. Please if you cant comment on her poo colour. Thank you

I would say this was normal, it looks like the colour my 2 year olds poo goes when he has an upset stomach. When my youngest was very ill in hospital his poo was grey and that's what they were saying was clay coloured.

No looks normal to me. clay coloured is basically white or really really pale grey. Google stool colour chart or go to CLDF website for a chart to compare colour. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

Also liver function tests show different enzymes. Some enzymes are raised when children are going through a growth spate and when you are fighting an infection so if no other symptoms and if they come back to normal they don't tend to worry.

With stools any brown or orangeness of colour shows bile is getting through and the liver is working.

Hope this helps. If you are worried and your gut feeling says something is wrong. Keep on and on at Doctors till you get answers.

Good luck
