Hi there, I would not worry too much, I have had high BP for many years and have learned to live with it, with the help of Beta/blockers and Ace inhibitors, Bisoprolol, Candesartan, Amlodipine I am still here after 20yrs of medication so don't worry, be careful with your diet don't smoke and ease up on the drinking, that's the best advice I can give you, also regular check-ups, because we are not all compatible with the same medication. Hope this helps you

It is higher than what is considered ideal, I think you will find that there a large number of people on here whose BP is higher. You can do a lot to lower this figure yourself with diet and exercise. It should be remembered that BP goes up and down so your reading in isolation doesn't give the full story. To put your BP in context mine was regularly in excess of 200/100. I was diagnosed with FH but only after a heart attack, I was lucky and suffered only minimal damage and since then I have made a full recovery. I have lost weight and exercise my BP is now around 140/80 and still going down. Good luck.

My husband has high blood pressure and is on Amlodipine and Losartan. We have a home monitor and before he goes to the GP for a review , he always takes a print out of the month's readings as BP does vary a lot during the course of the day and night.

Isolated readings are not that helpful.

My husband had high blood pressure for years before he was diagnosed but when put on tablets suffered dreadful side effects - cramp, headaches, and a horrible cough that made him sick. Dr took him off his tablets (after several different types) and sent him for a test - the new one where you swallow a camera - he now has to take a tablet for his throat (because of the damage from the vomiting) a tablet for his stomach (because the lining was damaged due to the vomiting) and a very low blood pressure tablet. He is now OK (although the vomiting made him anaemic and he has to have a high iron diet - liver, red meat and dark green vegetables - a diet he was told to avoid when he was diagnosed with the blood pressure problems over 10 years ago!! ) He sometimes take quinine tablets if he suffers from a cramp in the night which is very rarely. He has a blood test every 6 months and gets his BP checked when he gets his prescription renewed every 3 months. So far, everything is OK! Everyone is different and not all blood pressure tablets cause problems. A friend of mine has been on BP tablets for 30 years and has never had any problems!!

All the best to you

Short answer....no. If you had high numbers consistently at rest (about 90 diastolic ) it might need checking over a period of weeks. It is only reasonably recently that doctors have considered Systolic readings seriously but 149 would not be considered a risk....it is OK. I hope that whoever DXD you with high blood pressure was not basing it on that one reading ! Of course if you have other problems like previous heart attacks or stroke it might be considered in a different light.

I is hard to answer as your age, weight and lifestyle will make a vast diffeence. It is quite high but needs to be regularly checked to get a true idea.
