Fasting.

I am a great believer in natural healing methods and have practised fasting for over 30 years, There are many benefits to this age old healing system but modern doctors firstly do not really know much about it and secondly do not think that anyone would be willing to adopt such a radical approach. Hence it is not offered. However, fasting is a very effective and safe way to bring down high blood pressure, for example. And coupled with excellent nutrition it can help to reverse atherosclerotic plaque build up in the arteries.

Thanks, Patch. I consider dairy free to be part of an excellent diet, as you do.

Hello ChasB, Thank you for your comment. I didn't realise how much my health had been suffering until, after years of IBS, and NO help from Drs. They kept advising me to go on an "exclusion diet " which led to me omitting foods that WERE NOT the cause as Drs don't agree with food "intolerances" only food "allergies"! I had to go to a private clinic and get a test that was pricey but it was money well spent. I have never felt healthier. I eat fresh, organic (and home grown) food, local meat and fresh fish, home made bread, and other yummy things. My weight is excellent, I am full of energy and sleep well. I take supplements to help with the lack of minerals and vitamins I have been without for so long and have not looked back.

Hi again, Patch,

Great to hear your story - inspiring. I too am feeling on top of the world and full of energy. My weight is low ( statisically, the thinner you are , the healthier you are and the longer you live) and I keep active. I'm 63.

Nutrition and/or healthy eating is not really part of a regular GP's training. They mostly concentrate on studying drug therapies and surgery. Sorry you had to spend the money on going private but , as you say, it was well worth it. You could have saved that money if you had read "Eat to Live" by Dr. J. Fuhrman. I hold this man in highest esteem and went to hear him speak at The Royal Institution.

There has been a lot about the new 5 and 2 fasting diet recently. Its only 2 days a week not necessarily consecutive. You have to eat under 600 calories (500 for women) and it is supposed to reduce the affects of ageing. Its easy to manage. I have been on it about 3 weeks so too early yet to tell the difference but its worth looking at the research. Dr Michael Moseley had a program on BBC in August and he reduced his Blood sugar, Cholesterol levels and IGF1 levels the later being largely responsible for ageing after just 6 weeks.

Fasting definitely has a place in a healthy diet but for tose who are on life saving prescriptions drugs who must have a certain amount of food to be able to take them and encouraging them not to do this is quite frankly dangerous. Everybody sensible eats as healthy a diet a they can or as they can afford and we all have our own ideas about what does or doesn't agree with our bodies.

Horses for courses. There is a way of living out there for all of us and when we find it we realise how unhealthy things had been before!! Whatever we do to keep ourselves healthy and out of the Drs surgeries the better we are for it. Those of us who, due to illhealth, have to follow a regime of medication and diet do so to keep well and must follow Drs advice. We all know the rules, we all know what we have to do to keep healthy. It's up to us to do what we can to keep as well as we can and personally, I have found it. Keep well and best wishes all of you.

Thank you ChasB for your comments and I will certainly look into the chap you mentioned and read up on him. many thanks
