Is it ok to eat peanut butter wth this condition as I know it has a high fat content, but is the "right" fat?

I think peanuts are pretty safe as they are a legume (in moderation), but with peanut butter you have to be careful as it sometimes contains other oils such as palm oil which has a lot of saturated fat. Meridian Foods do a good range of nut butters which contain only natural ingredients with no extra oils added. There may be others too, not sure.

Hi deepblue, you are right, most peanut butter makers add all sorts of rubbish.

But the Meridan people ONLY use peanuts, you might have to search around for it, 'cos your average food shop won't sell it. when you grind peanuts only, the oil always floats to the surface of the jar, you have to give it a stir with the knife. It is delishous.

I have always enjoyed eating tinned fish, eg, sardines, tuna, mackerel, kippers etc and always drain them. But I've had a look at the tins and there is a lot of fat even when it's drained. So waht i do now as well as drain the oil is to rinse the fish in water before eating. I do not like fresh fish as above because of the bones.

You would not eat peanut butter on a low fat diet and with high cholestrol you should be aiming for a fat free diet. I would not eat it on this diet.

That's not what the factsheets on the heart UK website say, is it?

I think we used to be told to limit peanuts quite strictly but now they're thought to be ok in moderation. Watch out for added salt and oils though.

Peanuts and peanut butter are 2 very different foods, the clue is in the word butter.

As can be seen from the answers on this subject not many agree as we are all been given varied information and it is hard to sort it all out. I have just been given a new booklet from he Doctors and if there is anything to report I will do so tomorrow.
