You can certainly make cakes using low fat spread. It would also be a good idea to look for recipes that do not use sugar. Do a Google search. It would be best to eat cakes only very occasionally, if at all, if you are trying to lower cholesterol.

With some recipes that do use sugar I only use a fraction of the amount thy say to use. With things like custard just a sprinkling. Rhubarb and apples none (I started this years ago long before health issues).

The answers yes I would look on the internet as some more recent research seems to be suggesting that saturated fats are not bad for you. Personally I would make a cake using butter perhaps try to master making a cake mix and cooking it in a ramekin or in a mug in the microwave. I have seen recipes for microwave brownie in a mug, there you could use olive oil as your fat which may help your cholesterol, there is probably a fair amount of refined carbohydrate in most cake recipes. Making your own cakes is always better than using shop bought cakes as they use dried egg, margarine etc for convenience and to extend the shelf life.

I make a 'healthy' fruit cake but obviously sugar in dried fruit! I blitz 200g walnuts add 500g mixed dried fruit, 3 eggs, 2 tbs olive oil, zest and juice one orange plus cinnamon nutmeg . No flour. Just mix put in loaf tin cook 150 for about 75 mins. Quite dense with fruit but I like it for treat. Keep well

Why not search the internet for healthy home made cakes, without oil, butter or sugar?

I can't believe someone is dithering about whether or not they can eat a small amount of cake because of their cholesterol level. It makes me wonder whether such people ever eat anything that tastes good. Whatever has happened to enjoying their food?
