Not personally taking this, but it is a fibrate used for lowering 'bad' cholesterol. The following link will give you the details on it:

Hope that helps

Yes, I am taking it, just wanted to know other peoples experiences of it.

I was on benzafibrate for a short time as I had been having problems with atorvastatin. I think benzalip is the type you only take once a day.

I didn't get on very well with benzafibrate, it gave me muscle cramps, constipation and bad dreams (very similar to simvastatin). I also had to take it 3 times a day which was a right pain.

I think its main action is to lower triglycerides rather than LDL.

I was put on questran first and then bezalip about 20 years ago when I was diagnosed with Type 111 hyperlipidiemia. Last month I had a cholesterol check at my doctors and it showed a level of 6mmol. They then referred me to the hospital where I wentyesterday, and they have started new tests to see if they can put me on any other medication. Considering that in Jan 1991 my level was 13.1mmol, I'm happy with 6!
