en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omacor says it's esterified fish oils and used for treating high triglyceride levels. Do you know your total cholesterol and LDL, HDL and triglyceride levels? Do you have FH? Is your doc a GP or at a lipid clinic? (You might like to put the answers to these in your profile.)
I'll have a second go at posting this comment. Omacor is the purest form of Omega 3 which smooths out the blood vessels to assist the flow around the body. My Cardio Rehabilitation Nurse described it as "calming everything down" after a heart attack. It also is the easiest way of getting your intake of Omega 3 rather than have to eat loads of oily fish - mackerel etc every week. Apparently they are expensive so GPs are sometimes reluctant to prescribe.
Thanks .... My last cholesterol was 7.1 in December at my doctors... I have no idea re LDL,HDL or tryglycerides.... I then started Omacor and I have to retest this month. Amongst other health conditions I do have high bp and diabetes type 2 .. I am on amplodopline and lisinopril for my high bp and my diabetes so far is controlled with diet & exercise.
I hadn't heard of Omacar so I looked it up. Mike262 is right about cost, as I came across a Health Authority that said they wouldn't prescribe it.
It says it is given after a heart attack, not for primary prevention ( that is if you haven't had one).
Thankfully I haven't had a heart attack .... doc wants to see if omacor brings down my cholesterol.... having bloods done soon so will see if it helps
Hi everyone. I also have nasty side effects from taking statins and wondered if i could replace them with Omacor(or Maxepa?). My current Cholesterol results: Total=5.1 HDL...1.4 LDL...3.2 Triglyc...1.2
I have FH and have had a heart attack. Also has anyone any experience of Renal denervation to lower cholesterol? Any advice anyone please? Thank you.
