Hi all, has anyone on here experienced double vision whilst taking statins?
I am on a low dose of Atorvastatin, 10mg on alternate days, to lower my cholesterol.
Prior to starting statins I had double vision requiring two diopters of prism in my glasses, since taking the statin it has suddenly jumped to twelve diopters, I am currently under the eye hospital for monitoring.
Have only just made the connection between the two.
The eye consultant says I need to manage Cardiovascular risk, (his diagnosis for the double vision is sixth nerve palsy) so I am wary of just stopping the statin.
If anyone had the same issues, did your double vision resolve or improve if you stopped or changed statin to something else?

Hello BeekyI experienced double vision 18 months ago, and had various tests at local hospital and was put on different medications : arvostatin. BP, and others. After 4 weeks my dbl vision became normal and the conclusion was that high blood pressure caused the double vision.
I stopped taking any statins as artovastin, pravastatin caused me severe ear pressure problems. I only take BP medication now, which keeps my BP normal but vivid dreams/nightmares. I take plant sterols.for.high cholesterol
Thank you for your reply jpjones1. My blood pressure is never high - I sought a second opinion from a Moorfields opthamoligist and she thinks my double vision is due to my high myopia (short sightedness). I am taking a break from the statins anyway to see if it does help though! Do the plant stenols work? What is the dosage?
Good that your BP is normal. I am currently taking "clean plant sterols" from "British Supplements" 2 capsules per day or another company called "5 Greens". Both these companies have NO additives in their products. I would also recommend you look up articles by Dr. Zoe Harcombe PhD, on the Internet, who wrote a great article in March 2015, effectively condemning statins and the myths of high cholesterol
