NHS done good by me.

Because I was unable to control my cholesterol within acceptable levels and most of the bad stuff was made within my body, I've been given a self injection drug called Praluent 150 mg. I inject every 14 days. It works extremely well and my lipids are now well within range of good. The only downside is that the drug costs the NHS well above £4,000 per annum. But thanks NHS for helping me reduce my bad lipids because I was extremely sensitive to all the stations.

This is very interesting story! Did you try all different statins?

How did the GP agree to this cost?

I am happy for you. What are your lipids level now?

Sandy I did reply but this awful site disappeared my very long response to you. Shorter reply is check drug on NICE see if you fit criteria. Need a Endocrinology Consultant to refer you. if you fit criteria which is extreme, talk first to your GP. Don't know the numbers for my lipids now but bad lipids very low and good are high. I paid NI for 48 years + and don't feel guilty about the cost. Good luck.

Wow! But good result. Fingers crossed my statins work!

Mike statins do work for a vast majority of people. I hope you are one of those people. I would mention that there is one other drug I was tried on, being Ezitimbe. I think I've spelt it correctly. Statins cost roughly a penny a day, Ezitimbe around a pound a day. Despite the extra cost, it too made me cramp after the first two doses. My current treatment equates to about £13 a day.

I think it would be worth posting your results before and after with limits so that we can see the effects of Praulent on your lipid results.

I assume you have been tested for Lp[a] & Apob before and after, the PCSK9 inhibitor. I thought NICE guidance was to use these for people with FH, which is a genetic disorder, my understanding is that people with FH die young, yet you have paid NI for 48 years which would place you in your 60s, please check this by research on the internet and talking with your doctor.

I would suggest you watch this video and also watch some of Ken Sikaris lectures on Youtube as well as doing your own research youtube.com/watch?v=DV9yQbN...

Video states an error so unable to watch. I've no idea what FH is and know that I have not got that. I am happy that my treatment is correct but have no idea what my figures are or were before and after just bad before and excellent now. I know I fit the criteria for NICE treatment so it's not just for FH. No need for any further research on internet as after years of suffering, I have pain free treatment. You are right that my age is in my 60's I'm 70 next birthday. Thanks for your interest. kind regards.

Hi, Could you please repost the video link as there is an error. I am happy for this person as he is telling us of new medication and he is pain free and enjoying one life.

Why is it necessary for him to do more research on the Internet or discuss it with a doctor as there is no more problem?

If you watch the video and do some research online you will find that having higher levels of cholesterol over the age of 60 is a benefit.

Hi,

Thank you for your video link.

I looked at the medication as it is new to me. There are a lot of information both from NHS and other places.

AS this person says there was a referral to a specialist not to a lipid clinic.

I wish him all the very best with this new medical treatment. In my case I am 73 and I have refused medication for high cholesterol. Only time will !!, I have left leg pain due to falls over the years.

Thanks Sandy, I hope you live for much longer and that you have no more falls.

Not according to my consultant and GP,s but time will tell. My cholesterol was so bad it clogged up my right coronary artery requiring an angioplasty to insert a stent in February this year . As I was then 68 years old I refute claims that high chloresterol is good for you when over 60 years of age. It may be in certain circumstances, not mine.
