Really bad neck and upper back pain only two days in of taking simvastatin 20mg/day

I did try atorvastatin nearly a year ago and got muscle and joint pain within a few days, then I stopped taking them. The GP persuaded me to try simvastatin on Tuesday, by Thursday afternoon my neck and upper back were so painful I couldn't turn my head or move my arms without a lot of pain. I didn't take the third tablet on Thursday evening. Today (Friday) I'm getting much less pain. Is this normal for simvastatin? My bloods actually say that my lipids were "normal no action required"

Hello,

Statin side effect do give body pain but your GP has to work with you to find the statin and dosage that work for you.

If your medical record say no action required why is your GP giving you station.?

I had blood test done this month and my GP comments on the blood test results say no action required therefore I have refused station and this has been documented.

By the way what are your blood test results, total cholesterol, lipid numbers? Thanks.

As below, these were done non fasting, around 3hrs after my breakfast of bacon and egg, fruit and cocoa 😁 so I imagine the LDL level were up compared to a fasting sample.

Thank you.Now days some doctors look at Non Hal Cholesterol, in your case comment there is no action required. Please ask your doctor why? you need medication to lower cholesterol, may be another reason for medication.

I have psoriatic arthritis and was put on 3 different statins and all 3 caused my PSA to flare something awful. I think some people are just sensitive to these drugs and having Hypothyroidism can also cause elevated cholesterol levels…. Has your GP tested your thyroid levels?

The thyroid function test was normal no action with serum TSH level at 1.13 mU/L range 0.35 -5.30Serum free T4 level 11.7pmol/L range 7.0 - 17.0

So at a guess I don't have hypothyroidism!

I know B12 deficiency can cause raised LDL levels which I have had for many years but I now self inject B12. I think I am just hypersensitive to drugs😁

Guess not and I never heard LDL connection and B12 deficiency.

Your FT4 is quite low in range which suggests the FT3 will also be low. The T4 is inactive - a storage hormone which needs to convert into the ACTIVE hormone T3 - needed in every cell of your body. Also anti-bodies were not tested to rule out Hashimotos.

As you self-inject B12 I am wondering if you also take a GOOD B Complex to keep all the B"s in balance. I self inject and take Thorne Research Basic B Complex.

Ferritin and VitD also need to be optimal.

Why on earth would your GP prescribe a statin ? The NHS website states the thyroid should be well treated before starting a statin 🙄
