Hi everyone , I live in the uk , can anyone please tell me if using cholesterol monitor kits at home be reliable ? As I'm anxious and worried of my husbands cholesterol . Booking an appointment at the GP , having the blood tests done , then waiting for the results is a tedious and lengthy procedure . Hence I would like to use cholesterol monitoring kits at home for quick reliability and relief but not sure if they are accurate and if yes , which is a good one ? Please guide.

The process you have written is what every one in UK go through, OK, it can take two weeks or four weeks, what is the issue?and the NHS health check is the best!

Home testing for the first time is a no no. Have a look at Mail on line for home testing cholesterol device.

At you local chemist you can do blood glucose and cholesterol at a cost, give this a go but the reading may not be accurate.

Heuristics is a behavioural bias that allows our brains to make quick decisions when faced with excess information - in effect - a mental shortcut. The belief that the measure of LDL-C alone is somehow indicative of your cardiovascular health is exactly that - a mental shortcut propagated by decades of misinformation on the subject of heart disease.

You do not need a home cholesterol testing kit.

You need a lab test to measure something called Lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a). You may have to pay for this test but you only need it 2-3 times, initially, per year. Once you have attained optimal levels, you then only need to monitor this metric once per year.

Focusing on cholesterol is like focusing on the tire pressure of your car's tires. It tells you something about the state of your car's tires, but it doesn't tell you about the overall condition of the car's engine or the driver's behaviour on the road that may lead to a collision.

Knowing your LDL-C weekly or monthly is unnecessary - cholesterol is the result of dietary and lifestyle behavioural factors - until you change those factors, your health will not improve and knowing the value of LDL-C and total cholesterol will not help you.

If your husband is overweight and has excess abdominal fat - he and you must focus on changing dietary and lifestyle behaviours to eliminate the excess body fat.

This change will begin through daily exercise and the dietary elimination of sugar and dramatic reduction in simple carbohydratres foods.
