heartgirl, I am just going through a second bout of severe 24-hour body itch. During the first bout 8 months ago, I was prescribed Fexafenadine but I only used half a dose as I have reduced sole kidney function, so it didn't work too well. I was scratching overnight to the point of making myself bleed, and was referred to a dermatologist. He carried out a skin biopsy and the culprit was found to be one of my blood pressure pills. I stopped one of those and the itch disappeared. It was then decided that I should double the dose of the remaining BP pill. All was well at first but now 7 months later the itch has returned. I have gone back to taking half the dose of the BP pill and there has been a tremendous improvement. I have been prescribed the moisturiser, Dermol 500, for using in the shower and applying afterwards. However, a friend recommended a product called Child's Farm Baby Moisturiser, and after a couple of applications there was a tremendous improvement in the itching. It has been highly recommended in the media for eczema in babies, even newborns, and, although I'm far too long in the tooth to be considered a baby, it has worked wonders on my skin, and I can't recommend it enough. I hope you will soon find relief as it's a nerve-wracking problem, especially overnight, but the best solution is to find the cause if at all possible.

Both Boots and Superdrug stock it.....when it is available! Apparently, there was a run on it following the article in the press and they all ran out! Both Boots and Superdrug offered to place an order and get it in for me and, in fact, it took less than a day for Boots to receive the cream. However, a few days ago, I heard a young Mum asking for it for her 5-year-old daughter - apparently she uses the non-baby one regularly for her daughter's eczema and finds it brilliant. However, the pharmacist found, on looking it up, that it was actually out-of-stock at the manufacturers at that time. Perhaps worth your while ringing around a couple of local Boots/Superdrug stores - if they haven't got it in, I'm sure they will order it for you.

An itch related to psoriasis may be more serious. Go to a dermatologist and ask him to investigate if you have CTCL - Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma. This is a disease that is extremely difficult to diagnose because it looks like keratosis pilaris.

The tell-tale sign in a physical exam is red patches on the torso. If these patches are only on the extremities, then it is likely psoriasis or some other dermatological condition.

Initial treatment involves UVA or UVB light.

Good luck.
