Read the report "PURE" data? In developing countries poor people do not have money for five a day and so on. Children are happy if they can get one good meal of rice or bread and curry. Do they have money to buy fruits? NO. They need the money to buy rice and lentils for the next day meal.

All the children are happy and healthy and grow up in a health environment.

He's right. He's not a nutritional scientist. And this quote is just bizarre "every week in the newspaper we read something is good for you and the same thing the next week is bad for you" - I wonder if he feels that the newspapers accurately summarise his work?

He could be a great cardiologist, but that report of his speech shows little sign of good scientific process, so I think I'll wait until the PURE study has been independently reviewed.

I heard the speech in full and what he says makes sense, there is no scientific reason why "5 a day" is the right number it is a number picked out of the air.

Any medical numbers are questionable? Why the total cholesterol number has been changing?

And some say 7 a day, others say 10 a day. A few truthful statements doesn't make all the rest of his claims true by association, though!
