Acute pancreatitis

I was recently taken very ill with AP aboard a cruise ship. Fortunately I received excellent medical attention even though I ran up a bill of $4000. I was insured and they paid out in full, but I have never experienced pain like it and don't want to do so again. No problems since although I am trying to lose weight before my next cruise!

Curious to know. Was alcohol a factor?

No it wasn't. I don't drink that much anyway, but a blood test proved that it wasn't the booze that caused it. He did say that it could be gallstones, but if it was that, then I would have had back pain which I didn't. My GP has referred me to a gastroenterologist so I'm on a waiting list now.

Just a thought...cruises often involve lots of rich foods, fat intake stimulates bile secretion in gallbladder, possibly pushing existing stone into pancreatic duct., pancreatitis. Sorry you were in so much pain.

Yes I think it was that too as we had two very large meals in two days. Will be taking it easy on the next one. Thanks for your support.

My triglyceride count was 1.4 at the last count. I am in Wales and I attend UHW Llandough lipid clinic.
