sorry i meant to say this end comment was what I found hard to take in???
In answer to your actual question, its pretty certain that you are NEVER going to push your cholesterol down to 5mmoles/l and keep it there without lifelong statins.
This is the conventional reply that would be expected from a mainstream lipid hypothesis point of view. Dr Frank obviously follows and agrees with the new NICE Guidelines!
There are many other points of view, the problem is deciding which one is right for you. He is probably right about diet, but several people on this forum have reduced their levels significantly following diets like UCLP.
Dr Frank obviously just keys in a statin prescription whether your cholesterol is 8.2 or 5.2 as he believes in them so much . He might actually not exist or maybe he works for NICE!
I am a faithful reader of the US medical professionals website Medscape. In my two years of reading published studies I have learned that stations are rarely a good idea. In my own case, the use of stations caused horrible muscle pain, but much worse--they caused type 2 Diabetes. I stopped them after 10 painful and debilitating years. The Diabetes went away in 8 weeks! And I lost 10 lbs without trying. I eliminated ALL SUGAR and then all grains and increased healthy fats: coconut oil, olive oil, butter, home-rendered pork lard. My cholesterol numbers quickly dropped well within normal range. This is not new. It's called the Paleo Diet, but it's really common sense. Loads of veggies, moderate amounts of meat, eggs, nuts. It worked for me and my husband and eventually my siblings who had been on statins were able to stop taking them.
If you really give up sugar, artificial sweeteners, and the empty calories from grains, your numbers will drop. You need enough fat to not be hungry. I did this while I had a broken leg and ankle, so when doctors said, "So you exercised vigorously" I had to say, "um, no, I didn't exercise at all!"
Now here in the States most MDs are NOT prescribing stations nearly as much anymore. Only people who don't want to give up drink, sweets and bread end up on stations. I'm only a nurse, not a doctor, but I switched cardiologists and the new MD was and is still in total agreement with this approach. My opinion here, and you have to decide for yourself, but I was facing kidney damage and neuropathy from the diabetes, so stopping the two stations was an easy choice for me. Now my High Sensitivity Cardiac CRP is less than 1. That test measures inflammation that causes cardiac "events" like heart attacks. My number in the bad old station days was 9. Not good at all. My MDs are very happy to see me thin, and NO LONGER in pain and diabetic.
Completely agree. I have had all the the health benefits demonstrated by a rise in Hdl a drop in LDL, and a drop to normal range blood glucose by following Michael Moseley's 5,2 diet. I now eat in a n 8 eight window . watch this guy Dr Jason Fung who links obesity and diabetes and maintains both are reversible. intensivedietarymanagement....

Just keep it simple. Our body can let us know if there are problems. Watch the food intake, regular simple exercise can help lowering cholesterol. The big question is do we want to lower cholesterol?
Depending on the age we may want to go for NHS health check, the results may help to look at life and the necessary action.
Take insurance for example, car, house, building, contents and health. some are compulsory some are necessary. Health check and medication can be considered as human insurance.
Do you know of any advice or articles where I can read about this fact?
