Hello,

My sister is 27 and has been suffering with rosacea for years, (our mums sister also suffers with it) she will only clean her face with warm water no chemicals and will only wear make up on occasions.

The dr prescribed her lymecycline, 6 months worth at a time but has left it a while after her last prescription and now will need to see a dr again to get another which she doesn’t really want to do due to them being an antibiotic.

The picture I have attached is an average day.

She is looking for an alternative, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Crazycatlady_101 and thanks for posting. There are other people in the community who also have Rosacea so hopefully they’ll see your post and offer some ideas of what else your sister can try. In the meantime, you might find reading through some old posts and responses helpful by searching “Rosacea” on the site.

All the best,

Tiffany

Hi there Crazycatlady_101. Sorry to hear that your sister is having some problems. I'm no expert, but having suffered from rosacea for most of my life I thought I'd share some thoughts 🙂

I know that there are a range of antibiotics in the Tetracycline family of antibiotics which are used to help manage the condition, but there are also other plenty of other options. If she is comfortable with seeing a GP again, then they might be able to suggest gels or creams for her to use. These can take a few weeks to start to work, but can treat the redness. As well as this, IPL treatment is quite commonly considered for people with rosacea, although this isn't usually available on the NHS. A lot of people have this treatment, and it can have very effective results. Aside from these, simple things that she can do herself, like identifying and avoiding her triggers, using SPF daily, and using gentle skincare products might help her manage it, or at least feel more in control. Hope at least some of that helps - in the past I've been directed to these resources, which might be useful:

- bad.org.uk/shared/get-file....

- knowyourskin.britishskinfou... (specifically their 'How can Rosacea be treated?' section)

Best wishes and stay safe 🙂
