Quotation for Saturday 27th June 2020

Hi everyone,

Today's is the shortest quotation I've used so far. It's not even really a quotation I suppose. It's one of the first bits of Italian I ever learned, when I was a British Red Cross cadet aged about 11 (cough, cough, cough) years ago!

We were learning about the origins of the International Red Cross and how it had been founded by Jean Henri Dunant who had helped the wounded and dying at the Battle of Solferino in 1859. Having offered his help he saw female medical assistants helping the wounded on opposing sides of the battle, and they were using this phrase as justification for their actions.

He later went on to found the world famous organisation of the International Red Cross and as its motto chose that phrase which is:

"Tutti fratelli", or, "All are brothers."

Nothing much changes, and such idealism will never be completely adopted in this competitive world, but what a wonderful ideal, and I've carried that phrase with me all these years and tried never to forget its message.

And to demonstrate how good it is to embrace brotherhood, I've chosen to share a video with you today. It's "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" by John Rutter sung by the Virtual Choir, Batavia Madrigal Singers of Indonesia during the pandemic.

Remember to click on the white title, not the central button or the video may not play!

Hope you all have a really good Saturday. ๐Ÿ’–

Hi FredaE, I only found this on YouTube last night as I love John Rutter's work and was looking for a recording of this to soothe me before bed. This one was lovely and just seemed to fit really well with my quote for today. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm sure it was wonderful to be a part of the hospice choir. ๐Ÿ™

Thanks sassy59. Same here, much to my relief! My only hope is that it won't spoil anyone's weekend plans if they were planning meet-ups outside. Mind you, it might help curtail some of the excess revelling that's been going on! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™ Hope you have a lovely weekend. Any plans yourself? xxx๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”†

Thank you so much, a lovely write up and as for the tune, it was beautiful. I have also been part of the Red Cross since 1976, including running a cadet group as they were called in the earlier days.

Have a good day. God bless you
