Hi everyone,
I have the lyrics of another song for you today.
One genre of music that I love is Gospel.
It’s full of praise, longing and hope and it’s often sung by the most amazing voices.
One of my favourite singers of Gospel music is Mahalia Jackson. What a powerful voice she had, and sang a version of a song that’s in my mind a lot these days.
This song was adapted from a hymn as the anthem of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.
And its words are also quite appropriate to what we are going through right now.
‘WE SHALL OVERCOME”
We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day
Oh, deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some day
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand some day
We shall all be free
We shall all be free
We shall all be free some day
We are not afraid
We are not afraid
We are not afraid today
We are not alone
We are not alone
We are not alone today
The whole wide world around
The whole wide world around
The whole wide world around some day
Oh deep in my heart, I do believe,That we shall overcome some day
Again I've had trouble with my links to YouTube and to the Mahalia Jackson version but I highly recommend listening to Mahalia's version which must surely stir us to believe that we too, can overcome.
I hope that you all have a good day today, and continue to take great care.
ADDENDUM: No, sorry folks, no can do, but please find it for yourself. It's well worth it.
