Ruptured ACL

Has anyone out there ever had an injury to the knee whereby they have completely ruptured their ACL and also partially torn their MCL ? Did you have an operation to repair it and if so how successful was this? Alternatively could you just have physio? And how much activity do you feel you can safely carry out having taken that decision? I’ll be very grateful for any replies on this.

Defo have funky looking knee ... I don’t have them issues MINE just locks 🔐 AND can’t move till what ever happened subsided.

They say if can’t see finger size indents on both sides you have serious issues NEEDLESS to say my knee is like your good one.

Have though about knee operation myself if mine got worse AND I would not think twice AS known. Few old boys had it done.

Not really sure how long took to recover tho

Hi Liztheniz1963, I can't help you with a personal account of MCL and ACL damage and have only limited nursing knowledge of these injuries. I'd say that, if you've been advised by a medical professional to consider surgery, then take that advice, unless there are compelling reasons why you can't or won't do so. It very much depends on the extent of the damage and how unstable your knee is, whether phsysio and rest will effect a good recovery, so it's best to take the advice of the health professional who has had the opportunity to assess the damage in your particular case.

This must be very painful and debilitating for you, so I hope that, whatever the decision is, you will make a good recovery as quickly as possible.

Very best wishes.

Morning, my knee looks exactly like yours even now. I had a torn cartilage went on to have an arthroscopy but its actually the arthritis thats now developed that gives me the pain for which I recently had a steroid injection. Have you had scans on it? What have the doctors suggested? the days of being able to kneel on the floor have long gone for me. Best of luck whatever you decide to do in the end.x

Thank you for your reply. I have had an MRI and part of the report said I had a bit of arthritis. I have now been referred for so-called urgent physiotherapy but having rang this morning they’ve not received the referral yet. Doesn’t give me a lot of inspiration. The stiffness in my knee is preventing me from straightening my leg and that is preventing me and be able to walk As normal.

Hi Liz, I have had both my knees replaced due to arthritis. Many of my friends have had this op too. Apart from not being able to kneel down without discomfort, the op was wonderful. I can walk miles, do anything I like now.
