Family sick

Not sure if this is off topic. I was visiting my aunt who is recovering very slowly from meningitis and sepsis and related issues about twice a week. I have had to stop because my household has become sick non stop for about a month. First my older daughter with an ear and lung infection, me with a sinus infection, and now my youngest with a terrible fever and cough. Could this be from visiting my aunt?

Shouldn't think so - but none of you should go near the aunt until you are completely better as her immune system must be very low.

Yes I haven’t been able to visit in weeks.....

Hi fallen-leaf,

Like exhausted-wife, I feel it's unlikely that your family's sickness has been caused by direct contact with your aunt. Quite possibly, visiting the institution she's in, and being among lots of people when you visited, might have caused you to bring home some unwelcome guests in the shape of bacteria or viruses that have caused all the illness. (My husband also falls foul of this unwanted transference through working among lots of students who come back to university after their travels away to all corners of the world.)

Exhausted-wife is also right to say not to visit your aunt again until the household is clear of infections. That will protect her from any transference of infection from all of you, whilst her immune system is so compromised.
