Hello everyone and welcome.

It’s the end of a busy week once again. How has your week gone? Do let us know the good and the not so good moments.

What you are planning for the holiday Monday? I am just going to take it easy and find some good quiet time for myself. Maybe have a coffee and listen to some good music. If we’re lucky the weather might be fine and warm.

Perhaps you could share with us whatever you are planning to do.

Have a good Bank Holiday weekend

Hi MAS_Nurse, A quiet bank holiday sounds delightful, but alas I have an unexpected visitor arriving on Monday for several nights. Trying my hardest to be enthusiastic and failing! A duty thing, if you you know what I mean.

The past week was quite busy and began with the end of my visit to my home city of Oxford. I'd gone to catch up with my sister, who is struggling with her husband's recent diagnosis of vascular dementia, and I can see that she's going to need as much support as her husband in the days to come, as she feels all at sea with it at the moment. Of course I've recommended our lovely group and I hope she'll come and see how well we try to support each other, whenever the time is right for her.

Oxford is always a nostalgia trip for me, with memories competing with each other to remind me of those early years of my life, when it all stretched out ahead of me.

So I got on the train home with a bit of a heavy heart, leaving my sister behind to cope with her troubles, and echoes of childhood ringing in my ears.

It must have been good to catch up with your sister and I do feel for her. You’re very supportive Callendersgal and I hope your sister joins our caring group if she feels like it. She would be made most welcome.

Try and enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend and visitor if at all possible. Xxxxx

Hi Sassy,

I hope you are doing well and that you enjoy the bank holiday. The.weather is supposed to be good and we are planning on walking our dog, Max in the forest near to where we live.

We are also catching up with friends and family.

Hi Callendergal, I hope your sister joins our group. It sounds like she needs a lot of support. Any diagnosis that will be life changing is very hard to take. We would welcome her.

Trips down memory lane can be very bittersweet. I do understand what you mean. You gave your sister some much needed support and her own happy memories to treasure of your visit. She is lucky to have you as a sister.

I hope you enjoy your bank holiday weekend and that the sun shines!

Thanks Hellebelle for those very supportive words. I do hope you have a good holiday weekend too and fingers crossed for some sunny weather x

I love Oxford as a tourist. My husband was interviewed to be a student there many moons ago but wasn't accepted and he was a bit cheesed off about that.

I have sat outside my childhood home in the car and got lost in childhood memories. A bit bitter sweet.

Hope your sister will cope Ok. It's very hard x

in reply toLynd

Yes Lynd. Oxford is not only vibrant but its historic status means it doesn’t change as fast as lots of other cities do. I know exactly what you mean about your childhood home too. Mine is just around the corner from my sister’s home and passing it conjures up so much, so quickly. Thanks too for your good wishes for my sister. It’s tough for all who have to deal with this diagnosis and especially for people who have to cope without much family support. I’m determined to help as much as I can and I’m happy to say that my sister has very supportive children. For now I’m getting by on remembering how lovely it was for us all to be together and happy at their 60th wedding anniversary celebration last year, and the very poignant moment when they re-danced their wedding waltz from all those years ago. x

We’ve just returned from a lovely four night stay at a Warner’s property, Littlecote house. It was a nice break with good food and nice company. Lovely weather too luckily.

It’s good to be home though and will be seeing our grandchildren later. Hoping to have family round in the Monday so fingers crossed for good weather then.

Have a lovely weekend everyone whatever your plans are.

Take care all xxxxx

Mum's doing ok, last time my sister saw her mum wouldn't stop talking, sister's been in Devon with friends this week which has probably done her good, I've managed to organise her keepsake present for her 50th in August, she's also said she'd like to visit Buckingham Palace, local coach company have various options and sister hasn't said which one she wants yet, I had a glaucoma checkup yesterday, they're now totally disregarding my left eye as I have no vision at all in it after complications following cataract surgery, next Tuesday I've got the Lymphoedema nurses coming out to show me how to don my compression sleeve as although the Lymphoedema isn't in the arm, since stopping driving I'm carrying shopping bags more and for longer distances so it's just for support reasons, and then next Thursday I've got another bone scan which is really bothering me as the letter from the one 5 years ago said I was at intermediate risk of fractures and no need to do anything, forward wind to a couple of months ago when I went to GP to be referred again which she did, and casually dropped into the conversation that one of my T scores from 5 years ago was -2.4 and -2.5 is osteoporosis so I'm 99% certain that in a few weeks I'll be adding that to my list of ailments, asked GP about vitamin D testing, book a blood test, which I've had and I'm lacking in that so I'm on supplements and she also decided to put me on calcium supplements as well, and i feel this should have been done 5 yrs ago, sorry for the long reply but I'm now beginning to struggle that I may have yet another life long condition, my weekend will be spent at work and I may see my sister and mum on Monday

Hi Jennymary,

It sounds like you have a lot to contend with at the moment, I really hope you spend time on Monday with your sister and mum and that the weather is good so you can spend some time outside enjoying it. When I feel low, being outdoors amongst nature, makes me feel so much better. I hope work goes ok for you and all those who have to work over the weekend.

Hi Hellebelle, thank you for your kind words, still not sure what's happening Monday and I'm still debating what to do Thursday after the scan (I've got an early appt), hope you enjoy your weekend and Max enjoys his walk x

I have done the Buckingham palace vist. Really enjoyed it. Hope you do too. X

Best wishes Jennymary,

You have lots to contend with and it can be a huge worry when some of that concerns your own health. But your own best ally is definitely you, and in doing what you do, which is to be interested and involved in your personal health. Hope you can continue to stay strong and cope with all that life has thrown at you.
