Good morning.

This is just a small update for all those kind people who suggested ideas as to how to get my friend's mum to eat more, after losing her appetite when she started to live in a Care Home.

It's been a few weeks now, and I saw both my friend and her mum yesterday when we all went out for lunch together.

'Mum' is looking really well and although I didn't want to ask, she looked as if she might even have put on a couple of pounds.

She got to this point through a mixture of things, hashed out of all of the suggestions that were so helpfully made.

The cook at the home's been really cooperative and keeps a little tray of the spices and condiments that 'mum' has collected up with the help of my friend and adds them to a portion of some of her food so that she now gets to enjoy her own spicier versions of chili, curry, spag bol and so on. She also has a little stock of frozen ready meals kept in the kitchen freezer, for times when she really doesn't fancy the dish of the day, and staff have also agreed to warm her a canned soup or make a Cuppa Soup instead of tea or coffee, whenever she feels she'd prefer that, and enjoys it with a couple of slices of bread and butter.

Nothing can really 100% compensate for the inability to cook in the way she was once able to, but this is a really happy compromise, thanks to a cooperative Home and some really helpful suggestions from you all.

My friend's now also feeling much more relaxed about her mum, and she'd like to send all of you a big thank you!

Glad things are getting better with food and meals We add dried milk to fresh milk in our home where I work Advised by dietician They are getting extra calories in same amount of fluid that way We also add butter and milk to potatoes And a tiny amount if sugar to carrots and turnip to give sweeter taste with extra calories

Good to hear that there are little strategies in place to help boost calorie intake. If you can't have a little extra dairy food when you are older, when can you! Sounds good to me!
