Dementia learn more
Before you go any further you really do need to speak to your GP.
It is dangerous to self diagnose, you can then find out for definitely find out.
Hi,
I definitely agree with Philip - diagnosis first. However also realise that there are many advances in the treatment of dementia. There is no cure as yet but they are getting closer. There was recently an online conference on the subject - my mother has Alzheimer's- and doctors and alternative medicine specialists talked on all the latest findings and how these have helped people. There are many different causes of dementia so it is important to get a correct diagnosis - it may not be dementia! - and then, if it is, to keep up with the latest research. Wishing you all the best!
Hi Vinekeeper,
Please don't just share this fear with us. Take it to your GP and get a professional diagnosis and some help and/or reassurance. Whatever the outcome is, i.e. whether this is dementia or not, it's not something that will just go away, and worrying about it on your own won't help you in the end.
Face your fears and make that appointment. The earlier that there is proper medical intervention, the better your prognosis and future will be. There is lots of help out there, including medication to slow down the progress of dementia, and if you need to come back to the Care Community once you know for sure what's happening with you, I know everyone will be delighted to offer support then.
Hi vinekeeper and welcome to the forum. As other forum members have suggested, it is important for you to make an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns and get a diagnosis. Please stay on this supportive forum where you will receive help from other members. Thank you and best wishes.
Thank you for replying. I have seen my GP and am waiting for cognitive tests, having had blood tests to rule out other causes. Its going to take 8/10 weeks to even get to take the test. I'm worried because if I need medication its going to be a very long time before I get it and I understand taking it as early as possible gives a better chance of keeping symptoms at bay.
Thank you all for replying> I have been to my GP, have taken the blood test for other possible causes, this came back that there were no other problems. I am now waiting for an appointment for a cognitive test, for which there will be a wait of around 8 weeks. I'm concerned because if I could have any medication it needs to be as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support.
