That’s hard to say as everyone is different. My mother in law was diagnosed almost 6 years ago with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s and is now in a nursing home.

It’s a very cruel disease. Xxx

Hi hi, I have Vascular Dementia, diagnosed in December 2014, as far as I am aware lol,Vascular can take it time and could be twenty years or more for it to take its toll on you, I’m early on-set Dementia which means you get it before the age of 65, and I’m a good few years away from that.

It’s on a gentle slope but some types, just fall away in steps.

I go to regular support groups in the week for help and to meet others with the same thing.

What gets me in the heart is when some friends just slip a bit further every month and it’s so very upsetting for me and others, it hurts because it will hit us also and to see this can be horrific for us all, I live alone now because homelife was very difficult and the arguments were too much for me and the stress was very high.

I’m in sheltered housing and no stress no arguing lol, it’s better like this because my wife and my carer, get on much better now that we live apart but only 2 miles away and I have a great scooter to get me there and back lol, I can’t drive a car anymore before cause of the moving on with my Dementia.

Good blessand a BIG THANK YOU to all the Angels who care and make sure we have a little bit of life as we can.

Can I just mention, that all the different dementia’s are all put under the Dementia umberella, ie Vascular, Alzheimer’s, mixed, Lewis body are all called Dementia because by using the term, Vascular and Dementia causes some confusion, mine is Vascular Dementia.

Love to all and let’s hope the next year can be better for us all.

Mine started because of my medications and type 2 diabetes, I have small vessel disease , Arteritis, lacuna strokes, which is deep in the brain, I went to see a specialist at Hospital and before we sat down, he said I’m sorry but you’ve had vast amount of mini strokes and there’s nothing we can do. Ok ty lol.

Hello. My husband has vascular Dementia. His memory was getting progressively worse and then he had a heamorraegic stroke 15 months ago, that left him unable to walk unaided. Since then, his condition has got a lot worse. Some days he doesn’t know me. Other days he can be fine. The difficulty for me is that I never know what to expect or how to respond. Later this month an Admiral Nurse is coming to see us. They are to Dementia, what MacMillan nurses are to cancer. I am hoping she will be able to help.

Good luck to everyone suffering from this awful condition and to those who care for them.

May I just say Hello to all the people on this site. My husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia 10 and a half years ago. For the first 5 years we were able to live reasonably well but as the time went on it became more and more difficult to live the life we had always had. No more visits to London to go to the theatre. He became more and more disturbed by lots of people around and by noise. Also going out for lunch became difficult as he always seemed to want the loo but refused to go into the toilet unless it was our house. I got a key for the toilets for the disabled but he only went in there once. And then refused. So the decline was slow and not to bad so start with. But unfortunately over the years it became more and more difficult to keep him with me, and he is now in a nursing home. Once settled he seems ok and I visit as many times as I can. The reason i am writing this is to say that there is help out there. Different areas offer slightly different services But please get in touch with Age Concern and/or Alzheimers Society for any advice and they will point you in the right direction. I could not have managed without their help. Admiral nurses are very helpful but not all areas have one that can visit. But they do have a telephone number that you can use to talk to one. Take care of yourselves.x

It can be difficult to say if you have dementia because there are so many factors that need to be considered and they may only be personalised all to the person who feels that they may have dementia without that information there is a very strong probability of misdiagnosis my advice to you is to see your G.P or make contact with an organisation such as the Alzheimer's Society they are able to help you by making suggestions or miffed necessary supporting you with your needs if you wish the society offers a confidential service and can support you to get the correct help and I am supplying the phone number for their helpline 0330 333 0804 they can then put you in touch with local agencies in your area they are very discreet because e they are bound by the data protection act. All the best Chadd
