Just had mum's first care home invoice come through, we're a bit concerned as they are asking for payment for mum's chiropody treatment, she's diabetic, so my question is should we pay it, query it or pay it and then if it's realised we shouldn't pay mum can be in credit, any advice is gratefully received x

Paying for diabetic foot care?????
Yeah all these things come at a price sadly, it might be worth talking to specialist diabetes nurses or see what the NHS has to say about it.
Might be worth a shot.
Good morning Jennymary, Yes unfortunately many of the care homes use private chiropody or podiatry. They tend to visit on a very regular basis. You can request for a NHS chiropodist to attend but there can be a long interval between visits (due to staffing levels being low in certain areas of the country) and as you know diabetic foot care should be checked on a regular basis. Why not have a chat with your Mum's GP and the care home supervisor. Hope this is helpful. Does anyone else have the same experiences please? Good luck Jennymary.
My father is in a nursing home and is a type 1 diabetic and, so far, I haven't had to pay for chiropody care as I believe the nurse from his GP surgery goes in to look after his feet. Could you contact the surgery to see if this is offered? I would also query it with the Home and if you have to pay it because it was private maybe next time it could be free through the NHS.

Diabetic's receive FREE foot care so speak to your doctor or the practice nurse my mum was diabetic , my 2 brother and my husband are also diabetic and none of them pay for foot care it's provided on NHS
Last week my diabetes nurse told me that I would have to pay for a private podiatrist. This is in spite of having diabetes, poor circulation, verrucas and a nail fungal infection, I also have plantar fasciitis. Having made enquiries locally, I find that the prices are beyond my means. I am 75, and don't walk well as it is. I feel I am now at great risk. It is over 2 years since my feet were last checked.
