my partner has been ailing for a number of years now and I am struggling as a carer. Are there any groups where people meet up socially to have a cup of tea and teach others the skills other people need? Volunteer groups in the area where one lives.

Yes, there are lots. Try 'Care for the Carers', they have things on. If he has dementia, the dementia society in our area have outings, tea parties, musical events. Try contacting the local branch of the society involved in his illness, you could contact the local social services department to see if they know what is happening or your library should have a list of what's available in your area.

Hi Sanndi, Welcome to this supportive and friendly community. I note that you live in Scotland. I've just done a quick Google search for you. Here's a link in Scotland for care information:

careinfoscotland.co.uk/

Also, Age UK (if this applies to you and your partner) have local support and you just need to type in your postcode in the search bar:

ageuk.org.uk/about-us/local...

As you've seen folk on here are only too willing to help and offer advice and support. Keep in touch and I hope will find this community a place where you can chat through things and find help.
