Tinnitus Reduces With Loud Music

Hi, I have perfect hearing and tinnitus (constant hissing 24/7) and pulsatile tinnitus. I have discovered by accident that when the "regular" tinnitus spikes, I can get 5 - 10 minutes of almost total silence by wearing earphones and listening to the radio or music at a medium to high volume. I first noticed this when I went to see a band and ended up with a seat that was close to an amplifier. The next day my regular tinnitus was almost non-existent. From there I tried to recreate the situation with the earphones and yes, it worked. The question is why?

Wow DownUnderinAus! Personally, I’d be afraid to attempt this in case it made the at worse!

Enjoy the quiet when and where you can get it.

In my experience, music helps the brain focus away from T. I rarely get loud music, unless I am working out and a song is recorded at a higher volume than others in my playlist.

I thought it was the exercise and redirected focus but I'll try just the louder music.

The music I have come to prefer in the background for doing things like tedious paperwork or cleaning is surf music. Two things I prefer in music to help me forget T are guitar and percussion.

Try this for your next loud music experiment, listen to Preston Epps' Bongo Rock. If nothing else you smile when it's playing

My guess is that the loud noise gives you a bit of "regular" tinnitus which is either masking or replacing the pulsatile tinnitus. The same thing happens to me, I have had P T left side only since May 2020. Once vascular and other anatomical causes have been eliminated as your problem the only remaining cause would be the same things as regular tinnitus so this would make sense.
