Did you have a CT scan to diagnose your Bronchiectasis? You really need a referral to a Bronchiectasis specialist. You can find one at your nearest teaching hospital. Take their name to your GP and insist on a referral. From there the specialist should refer you to a physio who will teach you how to get the sputum up and decide if you need any devices to help with this. Your consultant will also advise your GP on what antibiotics to give when you get an infection and, hopefully, to prescribe a rescue antibiotic for you to keep at home. Two weeks supply. GPs are out of their depth, as are general respiratory doctors, when it comes to Bronchiectasis and your GP shouldn’t be trying to deal with yours especially when it’s so difficult to get an appointment. If you find this too daunting ring up the BLF helpline and ask their opinion. It’s easier to quote them. Good luck.
