Lifting heavy objects, straining, sneezing, coughing and vomiting can cause the varices to tear, so can poorly chewed food and irritation from stomach acid.

Its the primary biliary cirrhosis, which over time destroys the bile ducts of the liver, which has caused the side effect known as varices. Varices are swollen veins in either or both of your oesophagus (throat) and your stomach.

A diagnosis of PBC doesn't mean you cant lift anything heavy, but the illness will make you tired which must make being a cleaner quite difficult, as its very physical.

If you have varices then your disease must be fairly advanced and your liver quite damaged. Are you seeing a doctor about this? There is treatment for varices.
