AST/ALT Ratio

Hello. I have an appointment to discuss results tomorrow but was wondering what others thought. AST is 38 and ALT is 36. When I jot in the numbers on the Fib Calculator the ratio is 1.04. Should I be worried about Cirrhosis?

The ratio is generally given no relevance where both figures are within the normal range or just over (which yours are). Doctors only give it any credence where one or both is substantially elevated. The only use for it where figures are normal is where there is known cirrhosis and it can be used to maybe identify cause.

The ratio alone wouldn't be used on it's own to diagnose anything and would require further tests.

AST is only slightly elevated and ALT is the high side of normal. Stop worrying and be guided by your consultant.
