Greetings. This is my 1st post having only been diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. I can't get in to see a dr until next month so I'm having to figure things out on my own at this point & am grateful to have found this community. I am hoping you all are willing to share how you may have coped with the itchiness. I'm trying to be kind to my liver so don't want to slather on any ol' lotion and make my liver process it. Does drinking more water help? Are oils better than lotions? Any thoughts or input? Thank you in advance!

Remedies for itchiness?
Hi - my son has sleepless nights with the itching His GP has prescribed Double Based Gel and Menthol 1% in Aqueous cream , They do help . His liver nurse also said to wrap an ice pack in a towel and put in on itchy skin as cooling it down helps . He hasn’t tried that yet . Maybe request the creams from your GP . Hope this helps . Carol
I had really itchy legs especially at night,I found spraying deodorant helped smooth, and also calamine lotion 🤗
You can make sure your skin is fully hydrated by using aqueous cream as a moisturizer and in your bath water, I take a daily antihistamine and something called colesavelam from the liver consultant but obviously see your GP before taking any meds. I also have the cream with menthol which helps with flare ups. Good luck with it x
I also would say aqueous cream 👍I agree with the ice pack too if really bad. I’d be staying away from anything with perfumes etc…
Thank you all so much! I can't seem to find aqueous cream in my local stores and am not sure what an equivalent would be but I can order it online. It can't get here fast enough. Thank you for the reminders to check with the doc before taking any meds and to avoid perfumes. What a thoughtful group.
Welcome to the forum. I’m not sure if my periodic hand itching is from my cirrhosis or allergies. Either way it’s terrible. I found that taking Allegra allergy meds gives relief within an hour. However I have had to dip my hands in an ice bath and keep them there for a minute or two. That only gave me 10 minutes of relief though.
Hi I'm going through the itchiness currently, into my 5th week of it. I have been prescribed colyostramine, however, it makes me have chronic diarrhoea. So I've stopped that but it does work for others. It clears the bile salts from gall bladder, which causes the itching. I've also been prescribed methoderm cream, which cools the skin and helps with itching. I had an appointment with liver consultant last week and it will stop but it takes time. I understand how horrible it is, but I see it is I've abused my body for so long, it's payback from my liver for a while!! Hope it calms down soon.
Wanted to update those who are interested - I got the aqueous cream and it has been a tremendous help! It is still several weeks before my 1st appointment with a gastroenterologist to help me figure all this stuff out and what is causing what but I am very grateful to you all for your help and the relief you helped me find in the meantime!
