I'm actally scared

Hello,I have cirrhosis & barratts esopagus. & have recently seen my hepatologist.

Due to low iron & a previous endoscopy results showing a small bleed in my stomach, he has requested for me to have a endoscopy & colonscopy, which will involve banding, for the first time. The appointment for this has come through, and is for both procedures on the same day due to the consultant's schedule, which is fine. But I am scared as to what is going to happen, if I will need to book extra time off work afterwards & what if, I know it sounds extreme, that I might die during the procedure, I just don't want to worry my siblings on this. Now writing this. It sounds like Anxiety setting in.

Can someone whom has had this prodedure advise me as to what to expect.

Much appreciated..

Hi, please don't worry it is quite common to have both procedures at the same time, you will only need one lot of sedation, one day off, get it all over in one go. I'm my experience after banding if you have to have it done it will be painful to eat for a few days so get some soup, and soft food in. After sedation you are not allowed to drive, sign important documentation for 24 hours and personally I slept for 24 hours but I do need a lot of sedation.Good lyck, hope all goes well

Thankyou

Hi I had the colonoscopy and endoscopy on the same day/time. They do the colonoscopy first, then the endoscopy. With the sedation you’re given it seems like no time you’re on the bed.

I had the next day off of work due to sedation then back to normal.

I know people react differently, but plenty of fluid the next day seems to help me.

I also had banding (that didn’t help my condition) but that’s a different story that’s being sorted soon, but again, the next day I had off of work as I requested some sedation, the dr doing the procedure said I wouldn’t need it. And I was agajn feeling my normal self.

Try not to panic, you’ll be fine, and it is a good thing to get as much done as you’re allowed all in one go.

Best of luck.
