Hi just a quick question to ask if anyone with liver cirrhosis is on Edoxaban!I have liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension and a few small varacies..but took a stroke last year and was put on anticoagulants due to AF

Was curious if anyone else is on anticoagulants that have varacies and portal hypertension!

Hi, I had varicies, two massive bleeds and portal hypertension, I had to inject deltaparin twice daily as I also had a clot in my portal vein which was stopping blood getting to my liver. I also had a very low platelet level. Yes it was a risk but important to thin my blood to allow it to flow round the clot and keep my liver going whilst I waited for transplant. My varicies were well banded before I began deltaparin and were checked regularly. Id also had a stroke due to massive blood loss from the varicies.Wishing you good luck with your recovery from the stroke, we just have to put out trust in our doctors.

Thanks Hilary for your response!Sounds like you were in a completely different situation with your liver disease than me!

Did you have your transplant?

I'm not that bad actually I'm well compensated and although I have portal hypertension and a few varacies that are small I'm actually doing OK

My stroke was the reason for anticoagulants and a diagnosis of AF

I was just curious to ask if anyone else with varacies has been put on anticoagulants!

Hope you are doing OK and things have improved for you now! 🩷

My husband had drains of ascites, that procedure involves a small incision and attendant risk of bleeding. He had to stop taking it two days before a drain. Also a risk of varices bleeding. It was stopped altogether eventually.

Thanks Fabrica I do know with varacies it can be a risk but my varacies are small and i suppose the risk of another stroke because I have AF is greater so Edoxaban was prescribed long-term!I hope your husband is doing OK!

Hope you don't mind me asking why was your husband given Edoxaban?
