Hi I'm new to the site but not new to pbc diagnosed in 2018.Think I've been neglected over the years by my consultant as I've only just in the last 7 months seen a liver specialist and even that didn't go to plan I was with my daughter at my 1st appointment and the consultant assumed it was my daughter who had pbc he talked to her for a good 5 minutes until I introduced myself !! He didn't even apologise.
Anyway I've heard that a different diet is recommended if you have liver disease but I'm naive to this as I've only just heard about it ? I don't smoke or drink never have but I have been overweight in the past currently lost 4 stone as I felt dreadful this last 12 months with the pbc. I'm not on any medication at the moment after not been able to tolerate urso apparently there is a new drug just been listed available in 2025.
Just wondering if anyone has been given a diet sheet or given advice about what is better for your pbc or liver disease I'm at stage 3 at the moment any advice is very much appreciated many thanks x

All I really know is that the cancer has spread to my liver.I believe it is a matter of caution and common sense I think you have that already. You can ask for a diet sheet of your g,p practise. I cannot say much yet, as nothing is growing in me! What I can do is wish you a happy time. You might like to write to your g.p., outlining what you say here and there will be plenty of people to advise you when all Xmas madness is out of the way! I pray you whole again and soon
hi, I’m new to this site too having just found that I have fatty liver disease. Apparently it was found on a scan 5 years ago but I wasn’t informed and only by chance the pharmacist at my GP’s picked it up. I have been given no advice or told at what stage it is. I’m reading like crazy and find the dietary information on various websites extremely contradictory. I have asked to be referred to a dietitian and have made yet another doctors appointment to try and get some answers, the last doctor I saw struggled to know what side of the body the liver was on! I do hope you have a better experience next time and would advise you too to ask to see a dietitian. Good luck.
Hi. My late mother was told she had fatty liver without any big recommendations on what to do about it. She was a non-drinker so it was NAFLD. They didn't say it can be hereditary. However years later both my sister and I have it. I am only mildly overweight (and am almost done fixing that!) and not a drinker. I was also diagnosed with genetic Hemochromatosis and now I wonder if that played a role with my mom. Fortunately my GI takes any level of fatty liver very seriously. Thank heavens your pharmacist picked that up!
Hi. The British Liver Trust has a lot of info on diet. They also have a phone line for help if you are in the UK. Wishing you the best. For NAFLD/MASLD my GI recommends a Mediterranean type diet (without alcohol of course). I'm not sure if the pbc alters anything related to diet so helpline might be helpful.
Thank you for this information and I will surely be looking at their advice on diet. I have seen my GP again today and I too have NAFLD and I’m a non drinker, it has been suggested that it’s hereditary. Thank you again for your kind help.
