A routine blood test revealed my ALT was 128 and my AST was 51. I’m really worried what this means as I can’t get a GP appointment until the second week of Jan. I’m 33 years old. Also cholesterol was fine and not diabetic. This is new as I had some routine blood tests in 2021 and 2023 and liver was fine (although for some reason they didn’t measure ALT in 2023 but AST was fine).
I had a heavy drinking session 4 days before the most recent blood test and have had 6 social events in the past 2 months before the test that have involved heavy drinking. I plan to completely stop drinking for a while until the levels go back to normal and cut how much I drink when I do and lose weight as I am overweight (not obese but could do with losing weight).
Wondering if this could be a reason or something more sinister? Or how concerned I should be? I have very bad health anxiety so this has made me very nervous.
Thank you very much and have nice Xmas

Your plan to address this issue sounds exactly the right one. Clearly you should get advice from your GP but from what you say I reckon your liver has got annoyed by your "heavy drinking session" shortly before the blood tests, possibly exacerbated by your previous social engagements. My bet would be that cutting your alcohol and following a healthy diet will see the levels return to normal. Try not to let it spoil your Christmas.
